Wine Information

Adrien Roustan’s Gigondas estate is spread across five plots in Grand Montmirail. They lie at altitudes of 400 to 520 meters. The lower part consists of red marl. In the middle and high elevations, limestone becomes increasingly prevalent. The 4.5 hectares were planted in 1975 with 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Cinsault. The grapes were destemmed, crushed, and quickly fermented. The wine was aged in concrete.

Nose

The aroma of Adrien Roustan’s Gigondas suggests that the Syrah content could be higher; the wine is quite dark with notes of plums, meat, a touch of tar, and olive tapenade. Added to this are dark raspberries, herbs, and the licorice typical of Grenache, some undergrowth, and foliage.

Palate

On the palate, the Gigondas is juicy, with dark berries and soft tannins. The influence of Syrah is clearly noticeable here, too. What is particularly pleasing is the vibrant energy that characterizes the wine. Added to this is the stoniness, which brings a certain coolness to the cuvée. And beyond that, this wine is also a sensual expression of the place from which it comes. You can sense the garrigue and the herbs mingling with the round fruit and the fine texture.
