Product description for d’Ouréa Gigondas AOC 2021 (bio)

Wine Information

Adrien Roustan’s Gigondas estate is spread across five plots in Grand Montmirail. They are located at altitudes ranging from 400 to 520 meters. The La Belle Cime vineyard, from which this wine comes, covers one hectare and is located at 520 meters on the southern slope of the Dentelles de Montmirail, surrounded by holm oaks and rocks. The vines were planted in 1982. The vintage used was 70% Grenache, 20% Syrah, and 10% Cinsault. After hand-harvesting, half the grapes were destemmed and crushed, followed by a two-week maceration after spontaneous fermentation. The wine was aged exclusively in concrete tanks to preserve purity and finesse.

Color

Medium transparent ruby red

Nose

In the nose of Adrien Roustan’s Gigondas, notes of Grenache and Syrah combine to create a pure, fragrant wine whose origins are immediately apparent. Unusual, however, are the sensual and relaxing notes of passion fruit, which mingle with those of black raspberries, plums, sour cherries, and currants. These are accompanied by aromas of maquis.

Palate

On the palate, the Gigondas is juicy, fleshy, and energetic, with slightly chalky tannins, a noticeable influence of Syrah, and a chalky stoniness that brings a certain coolness to the cuvée. Here, too, one senses the garrigue and maquis, blending with the round fruit and fine texture.

Vinous

Score: (89-91)

Dark ruby. Suggestions of baking spices, earth and lavender complement mineral-accented red and blue fruit aromas. Vibrant redcurrant, bitter cherry and spicecake flavors show fine detail and deepen as the wine opens up. Closes long and precise, with solid, spicy thrust, a repeating mineral note and smooth, slowly building tannins.
