Info

The wine thrives on the slopes and terraces of Mas del Portal. Carignan and Grenache grow on pure slate at an altitude of 320–360 meters. The vines range in age from 20 to 75 years.

The wine is planted at a relative density of 5,000 vines per hectare. Fermentation lasts 22 to 24 days and takes place in conical steel tanks. Aging takes place for 15 months in foudres and large French oak barrels.

Color

Dark purple with a light rim and a crimson reflection.

Nose

The nose reveals a wild blend of sweet and tart fruit, such as sweet cherry, mulberry, and wild raspberry, accompanied by spices such as cinnamon, clove, and black pepper. Added to this are deep umami tones: black olives, gravy, Maggi, and lovage. Very apt Mediterranean nuances from the herb garden also come into play: rosemary, sage, and dried oregano.

Palate

Compact on the palate, also fleshy and dense. The fruit is a component, but not the dominant one. Much more intensely, its juicy, meaty side comes to the fore, with lovage aromas, spice, and plenty of character. Rosemary, oregano, black olives, and just a hint of grilled, marbled meat. A hint of green walnut. The Mediterranean nuance is discreetly recognizable in the finish, with all its ethereal, balsamic, and characterful aspects.
