Product description for Manincor Il Conte IGT 2023 (bio)

The grapes for Il Conte come from the Manincor and Panholzerhof vineyards, two southeast-facing vineyards located 250 meters above sea level with unobstructed views over Lake Kaltern. The soils there are rich, sandy loam, interspersed with limestone gravel and rock from glacial deposits. The grapes were thus harvested at perfect ripeness between late September and mid-October – first Merlot, then Lagrein, and finally Cabernet Franc. The individual batches were vinified separately, each with skin fermentation, partly spontaneously with the grapes’ own yeasts. Fermentation took place in wooden, concrete, and stainless steel vats, with a gentle maceration lasting ten days and the pomace cap being submerged only once a day – the goal was delicate tannins and maximum finesse. The wine was aged for twelve months exclusively in wooden barrels of various sizes.

Dark garnet red with violet reflections and a black core.

Nose

The 2023 il Conte from Manincor opens with a full fruity nose. Dark fruits such as blackberries, mulberries, fully ripe plums, and black cherries outline its dark character. Added to this are spicy aromas, sandalwood, undergrowth, light tobacco, black pepper, licorice, and slightly smoky notes. Dark and shady!

Palate

The initial sip is driven by its spicy components: dark chocolate, espresso crema, and light tobacco are embedded in the tightly woven and fluffy tannin with a texture like panne velvet. The fully ripe fruit has tart contours and is evident in the almost black extract. The ripe acidity acts with noble understatement in the background and gently accompanies it into the long, fruity, tart finish with a lingering finish.
