Wine Information

The Les Quarts vineyard is undoubtedly one of the best terroirs in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation. The beautifully situated vineyard faces east and is home to 48- to 80-year-old Chardonnay vines planted on siliceous, particularly iron-rich clay and Jurassic limestone soils. Of the 52 hectares of the vineyard, two hectares belong to the Bret brothers, who work 1.5 hectares of this with horses. The hillside location has been certified biodynamic since 2006. The harvest took place by hand from September 18 to 23. This was followed by whole-bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation. The Chardonnay was then aged for 17 months, first in used barrels and, after blending, in neutral cuvées. 100% malolactic fermentation took place. The wine was lightly sulfurized just before bottling. The total sulphur content is 29 mg/l. The wine has a pH of 3.22.

Nose

The 2021 Les Quarts is an exciting Burgundy that achieves a balance between yellow-fleshed fullness and a cool nervousness, bright citrus aromas and a fine rock spice. The fruit is accompanied by some chamomile, almond blossoms, and some pencil shavings.

Palate

On the palate, the Chardonnay displays impressive rock and herbal spice in the juicy fruit, dominated by citrus aromas and yellow and green plums. Unadulterated, the citrus acidity typical of 2021 provides punch and a light, pleasant sharpness, with notes of lemon peel imparting a piquant tartness. The vineyard and fermentation techniques bring the savoury components of this wine to the fore, especially in the finish. A flowing finish is guaranteed.
