Product description for Familia Nin Ortiz Selma 2018
Information about the wine
It comes from a vineyard called El Plà de Manlleu in Ester Nin’s home in Alt Penedès. She and Carles Ortiz planted a blend of Roussanne, Marsanne, Chenin Blanc, and Parellada Montonegra on one hectare there. The vines are planted on clay and limestone at an altitude of 750 meters. After the harvest, the grapes are slowly pressed and fermented and aged in barriques.
Colour
Sparkling, intense golden yellow.
Nose
The 2018 Selma de Nin is a captivating wine, and this is immediately apparent on the nose: ripe pear, grapefruit, orange zest, and banana peel mixed with white flowers, ginger, and anise. With the oxygen it demands, fine and creamy vanilla notes and a hint of butter emerge, indicating the previous aging in small wooden barrels. Clearly recognizable are hints of dried meadow flowers, plenty of iodine, smoky notes, pure cool freshness!
Palate
On the palate, this top white wine surprises with its rich facets and freshness. Its juicy fruit combines with a pronounced saltiness and an invigorating acidity. The pronounced phenolic content gives it incredible depth. The perfect white wine with a structure that harmonizes wonderfully with saltwater fish and game birds. So youthful that it could confidently be aged for a few more years. If you want to enjoy it now, do well to decant it and serve it in large glasses. Even a day of opening it in the refrigerator will make it a winner.

Wine Advocate
Score: 93+
The 2018 Selma comes from a vineyard named La Sinia (watermill), and this is from new vines planted in 2004 with 25% each Parellada Montonega, Roussanne, Marsanne and Chenin Blanc. This 2018 revealed a complex and developed nose with honeyed notes, hints of beeswax, verbena and dry hay and straw. It has 13% alcohol and great balance and freshness. It has complexity and depth, like a blend of a Northern Rhône and a white from the Loire. The soils are rich in clay and limestone, and the wine has the chalky texture and tends to develop tertiary notes reminiscent of struck match and diesel. Complex. This has an incredibly low pH of 2.9! Different and unusual. 1,923 bottles produced.
