Wine Information

In the style of a Grosses Gewächs (Great Growth), the Goldloch and Burgberg vineyards were skillfully combined in this wine. Gentle pressing of the grapes. Fermentation and aging with natural yeasts in multi-year-old barrels from local oak forests.

Color

Brilliant golden yellow with green reflections.

Nose

Initially, the 2022 Dorsheimer Riesling “Eierfels” still seems somewhat closed; a vigorous decanting perfectly brings out countless herbal aromas of wild mint, nettle, and, above all, tarragon. Later, fruity notes of grapefruit, lemon zest, and Granny Smith, as well as a hint of black currant, join in. An extremely multifaceted, complex, and exciting wine is on the horizon.

Palate

On the palate, this wine unfolds with plenty of power and spice; the herbal notes are almost more pronounced than on the nose. A wealth of minerality pairs with anise, tarragon, and zesty grapefruit notes. It’s the perfect partner for aromatic cuisine. Its development over the next few years will be exciting to follow.

The 2022 Riesling Dorsheim Eierfels is intense and floral on the pure and fragrant nose. Savory, saline and pure on the palate, this is a rather ascetic Riesling that lacks a bit of juicy roundness, the more so if compared to the more hedonistic 2023. The finish is dense and saline yet a little bit drying. 12% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in Burg Layen in February 2025.
