Julia Bertram and Benny Baltes have been a couple for a long time and formed a dream team for years at the Klingenberg winery (later the Benedikt Baltes winery). Now they have decided to return to their home in the Ahr region and concentrate fully on Julia’s parents’ winery. The balancing act between Franconia and the Ahr proved too great. Now they will implement their ideas of organic viticulture on the extremely steep slopes around Dernau. They converted in the very first year; the goal is biodynamic certification, and both dream of being able to implement permaculture with sheep in the vineyards here too. The winery boasts some of the best locations on the Ahr, and Benny conjures up very fine Pinot with depth, always balanced, never loud, but always full of expression and enjoyable to drink. For us, the new star in the sky above the Ahr.
