Information on the location

The gently sloping vineyard near Kientzheim lies at an altitude of 225 to 250 meters and directly below the Grand Cru Fürstentum. The soils are also characterized by limestone and sedimentary deposits, but considerably sandier. Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris are primarily grown here, ripening very slowly and often providing ideal conditions for great Vendages Tardives (Alsatian Late Harvest) and Selection de Grains Nobles (Dry Berry Selection).

Nose

The 2019 Altenbourg Riesling Vendages Tardives presents itself with a delicate tartness and a basket of fresh fruits. Lime, grapefruit, apricot, and orange jam dance the round. Chalky notes emerge after a longer opening – a wine that is still at the beginning of its development and promises great things.

Palate

On the palate, it awaits with intense sweetness paired with lively acidity. The perfect sweet wine and invigorating food companion, enchanting with its fresh, delicate character and moderate alcohol content of 11% vol. Cool and precise, it paves its way; the fine spiciness and compact minerality point to its very good aging potential; there’s much more to it!

The 2019 Riesling Altenbourg Vendange Tardive offers a clear, bright and intense, caramelized bouquet of white fruits, lime peels and crushed stones. Vivacious, lush and finely bitter on the palate, this is a lean and tonic, lemon-fruity Riesling VT that is rich and stimulatingly salty yet not that complex. It was bottled with 11% alcohol, 74 grams per liter of residual sugar and a natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in May 2022.
