Wine Information

Olivier Humbrecht: This wine comes from the gravelly and silty soils of the alluvial valley of Turckheim. Although this vineyard is flat, it enjoys intense sunshine, especially in the evening, as it is shaded by the Vosges Mountains much later than most south- or east-facing slopes. The soil is also well-drained and very dry.

Vineyard Information

Yields are naturally low, so this wine is often quite intense and aromatic, with good ripeness. The 2021 fermented for over a year before going dry, as the acidity is particularly high in this vintage, giving the wine an almost chalky mouthfeel.

Colour

Bright, intense golden yellow.

Nose

The 2021 Riesling Roche Roulée presents a pronounced minerality and a stony character in its aroma, as the name suggests. Due to its youth, it still appears compact and somewhat closed. After decanting into a carafe, aromas of apricots, oranges, orange peel, candied ginger, and mango emerge alongside the exciting flint notes, accompanied by honey, vanilla, and dried biscuits. With further maturation, these aromas will intensify, revealing a wealth of facets and dense complexity waiting to be discovered.

Palate

Attack on the palate – the acidity seems to explode, perfectly embedded in the yellow and exotic fruit. Salty minerality grips the palate, while its complex freshness and fine tannin structure give it wonderful length and depth. Be sure to decant and enjoy from a larger glass, not too cold.
