Product description for Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Häuserer 2019 (bio)
Wine Information
Olivier Humbrecht: Clos Häuserer is a small 1.2-hectare vineyard planted with Riesling in 1973. It is not a historic vineyard as such, as it was created by my father, who managed to combine many small plots into a large, contiguous square. It is bordered above by the Großlage Hengst and below by the Häuserer road (the road to the houses, reminiscent of an ancient Roman settlement not far away). It was easy to recognize the quality potential of this vineyard and its ability to produce long-lasting wines. Clos Häuserer lies on the same bedrock as Hengst: a siliceous marly limestone from the Oligocene, but with a much thicker topsoil layer (approximately 1 meter). This vineyard enjoys a warm microclimate in summer, but the soil remains cool, and the vines never suffer from drought.
Vineyard Information
Like many wines produced in this geology, the Clos Häuserer ferments slowly. The 2019 vintage was harvested at perfect ripeness and matured bone dry.
Colour
Brilliant golden yellow.
Nose
A juicy aroma of ripe peach, apple, pear, and ripe pineapple charmingly presents itself on the nose. Intense, interesting smoky notes hover above it. This makes it interesting because, for all its charm, the wine has an appealingly brittle note due to the intense limestone on which it was grown.
Palate
This interesting chalky note is also found on the palate, combined with gripping saltiness and brilliant acidity. The long and extremely stimulating finish makes you want to empty the bottle now, but also points to its fantastic aging potential. With pure elegance and subtle lightness, it joins Humbrecht’s magnificent 2019 Riesling range. Those who want to enjoy it now should definitely decant it over several hours and serve it in a sufficiently large glass. A few days of opening will allow it to develop its full potential.

Wine Advocate
Score: 94+
From 46-year-old vines yielding 53 hectoliters per hectare, the 2019 Clos Häuserer Wintzenheim Riesling intermingles ripe, aromatic and refreshing citrus fruit (mandarins and lemons) intertwined with the deep, calcareous marl notes from the Häuserer clos. Lush and elegant on the palate, with vivacious mineral acidity, this is a full-bodied, dense and intense, very concentrated and persistently mineral-structured 2019 Riesling with a vital, complex and still young but elegant and juicy finish. This wine weighs in with just two grams per liter of residual sugar and 13.2% alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in November 2024.
