Product description for Valfaccenda Roero rosso DOCG 2021 (bio)
Wine Info
The grapes come from various vineyards of varying ages located in the municipalities of Canale and Santo Stefano Roero, Mompellini, Loreto, and San Grato. The subsoil is characterized by clay and sand, and exposure varies from southwest to east and west.
Vineyard Info
The grapes are harvested at peak ripeness and blended. Fermentation takes place in barrels for a few weeks, and bottling takes place during the waning moon of the following autumn. After further aging in the bottle, the wine is bottled and released onto the market. Azienda Agricola Valfaccenda was founded in 2010 by Luca Faccenda and his partner Carolina Roggera in Canale. On the steep, sandy hills of the Roero, Luca and Carolina cultivate exclusively the indigenous grape varieties Nebbiolo and Arneis – firmly aware that only natively rooted grape varieties can authentically reflect their origins in the bottle. The two hectares they own are located around the winery near Canale, while additional land is leased on the hills of Le Rocche, the symbol of the Roero, as well as in Vezza, Madonnna di Loreto in Canale, and San Grato in Santo Stefano. The soils of the Roero consist of sand, which in ancient times formed the seabed of the Gulf of Padania and is sometimes mixed with clay sediments. In 2014, Luca Faccenda applied for organic certification to give his vines the best conditions for the authentic expression of the Roero.
Colour
Transparent ruby red.
Nose
The 2021 Roero Rosso Nebbiolo from Valfaccenda shines on the nose with flawless cherry fruit, ranging from sour cherry to black cherry. A hint of plum and the obligatory stone note in the background fill its fruit basket, which also includes blackberries and mulberries. A touch of orange zest hovers ethereally above everything, along with delicate cedary and dark, spicy notes of black and white pepper with citrus overtones.
Palate
Juicy and fresh, the Roeros from Valfaccenda always deliver more than reliably: flawless Nebbiolo enjoyment for every day. This Roero isn’t something you’ll cellar forever, but rather an open-hearted and uncomplicated wine in the best sense of the word, with clear varietal character, youthful yet polished tannins, and an invigorating acidity that accompanies it through to an ethereally cool finish. At every opportunity.
