Description
Product description for Pranzegg Laurenc 2020 The Pranzegg winery is named after the estate where Martin Gojer has been producing his wines since 2009, reflecting their origins, the vintage, and the family’s lifestyle. Located above the Bolzano valley basin, Gojer’s vineyards are cultivated biodynamically by hand, and in the cellar, less is more: long fermentation and long maturation periods on the full lees with the addition of only small amounts of sulphur characterize the wines, which are always bottled unfined and unfiltered. The grapes for the Laurenc (pronounced Laurenz) come from the vineyard directly on the farm at an altitude of 300 meters, facing northwest. The majority are trained in wire cages, while a small portion is still grown in the traditional Pergl system. The soils: loamy sand of volcanic origin, with morainic deposits of porphyry, basalt, and granite – deep and wonderfully permeable. 7,000 vines grow on 0.7 hectares, with a yield of around 6,000 kilograms. Fermentation took place spontaneously in a wooden fermentation stand, with all the vines retained and a maceration period of four weeks. This was followed by 24 months of maturation in large oak barrels, unfined and unfiltered. Then another 24 months of bottle ageing.
Colour
Opaque purple-red with violet reflections and a black core.
Nose
The 2020 Laurenc from Marion & Martin Gojers Pranzegg exudes a generous and expansive fragrance. Dark fruit whispers from the bowl, telling of blackberries and dark mulberries, plums as fully ripe fruit, cooked down with mild spices. Like the voice of Barry White, a solid, fruity-spicy bass rolls from the cup, with allspice, juniper, pale tobacco, as well as sloe and hollyhock providing spicy counterpoints.
Palate
Lagrein is usually controlled by its incredibly dense, often leafy tannins, which characterize its aroma. Pranzegg’s 2020 interpretation performs on the palate as a disciplined candidate with fine-grained tannins, tightly meshed but polished, with the necessary touch of youthful impetuosity and aromatically tart astringency. The juicy fruit is far more sinewy than on the nose and envelops the sparkling, ripe acidity that accompanies it into the long, fruity-tart finish.
