Description

Product description for Peter Jakob Kühn Spätburgunder trocken 2022 (bio)

Wine Information

The vines for this Pinot Noir grow on slightly lighter, gravelly soils with fluvial and maritime sediments in the Oestricher Klosterberg vineyard, the old Deez vineyard at 160 meters above sea level. The vines originate from Burgundy and bear small-berried grapes. Fermentation took place at 1.6 grams of residual sugar, 5.3 grams of acidity, and 12% ABV.

Colour

: Medium-transparent ruby red.

Nose

The aroma of this Pinot Noir is reminiscent of dark, ripe, slightly sweet cherries and blackberries lying on a bed of fluffy, dewy forest floor and fallen leaves. Added to this are notes of cinnamon and a hint of clove, some cedar and oak, red berries, and a touch of graphite.

Palate

On the palate, the Pinot Noir is juicy and sensual, smooth and refined with dark cherry fruit and hints of Chinese five spices and slightly aged soy sauce. What stands out is the pleasant acidity that permeates the fruit and is accompanied by a sensitive tannin structure. The wood remains discreetly restrained on the palate. In return, the wine has a slightly salty character on the finish, appearing fleshy, long, and juicy.

Wine Advocate

Score: 93

Sourced in the Klosterberg and in the Frühernberg, Kühn’s 2022 Spätburgunder trocken opens with a highly attractive spicy and fleshy sour cherry and blackberry aroma that is pure and fresh and absolutely irresistible in style. Silky, smooth and very fine, this is a full-bodied, intense and persistent, well-structured and even saline Pinot with a long, intense and substantial yet not alcoholic finish. It’s a fabulous fleshy Pinot Noir of great class, especially related to its price. It was bottled unfiltered in December 2023 with 13% stated alcohol and a natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.
