Product description for Michael Andres Reiterpfad Hochseel -N- 2020 (bio)Christina Hilker: On the palate, the 2020 Riesling Reiterpfad Hochseel “N” opens with pure, cool freshness combined with plenty of juicy fruit and distinct citrus notes. At the moment, it is still somewhat reserved, appearing very profound and complex, and captivating with a fine bitterness in the long finish. Some aging suits it well, even if its fresh and zesty character is already incredibly seductive and infatuating at this point.
Information about the wine
The – N – wines are fermented with wild yeasts, unfiltered, and given maximum freedom. – N – stands for: N-atural, No filtration, No limits, N-ext Level.
Information about the aging
Spontaneous fermentation in a tonneau followed by spontaneous malolactic fermentation. Subsequently, it was aged on the full lees until the beginning of June, then drawn off the lees using gravity, and bottled unfiltered with a small addition of sulfur. The wine was deliberately harvested at a low alcohol level so that finesse, freshness, and elegance would be present after malolactic fermentation.
Information on the vineyard site
These vineyard sites were deliberately entered. The parcel is located in the western part of the Reiterpfad, near the forest, and is the only place on the Reiterpfad where limestone is found instead of red sandstone and clay.
Colour
Muted medium golden yellow.
Nose
Yeasty notes and plenty of fruit are evident on the nose; alongside apple and fresh pear, the orange pulp and zest are pleasantly present. It demands the carafe, then it unfolds even more, with notes of ginger, lemon oil, coriander, and privet blossom. You can already notice the beauty of this wine, which it still somewhat conceals due to its youth.
Palate
On the palate, the 2020 Riesling Reiterpfad Hochseel “N” opens with pure, cool freshness combined with plenty of juicy fruit and distinct citrus notes. At the moment, it’s still somewhat reserved, appearing very profound and complex, and captivating with a delicate tartness in the long finish. It will benefit from some ageing, even if its fresh and zesty character is already incredibly seductive and intoxicating at this stage. Those who want to enjoy it now would do well to aerate it and use larger Burgundy glasses.
