Product description for Huet Clos du Bourg Moelleux 1ère Trie 2022 (bio)
This complex interplay of aromas in the bouquet demands a first sip. Once you’ve tasted it on your tongue, the pleasure of this wine becomes even greater. The Clos du Bourg Moelleux “Première Trie” may have the sweetest of the three “Première Trie” wines at 93 grams, but it also has the deepest minerality and the greatest depth. It’s a great wine, still developing, but already elegant and seductive, zesty in its citrus peel aromas, salty with notes of stone and a hint of botrytis, juicy in its white and yellow-fleshed, multi-layered fruit of peaches, quinces, papayas, yellow plums, oranges, and melons.
Wine Information
The Clos du Bourg lies above the church of Vouvray and comprises six hectares of vineyards surrounded by an old stone wall – hence the “Clos.” It is one of the oldest Grand Cru parcels in France. It was first mentioned in the 7th century. The vineyard’s shallow soil consists of clay with flint and chalk inclusions. It is located on a typical Turonian tuffeau limestone cliff. Here, the vines reach the tuff after just one meter. The harvest began in 2022 on September 8 (the second earliest date in the winery’s history) and ended six weeks later (the harvesters, 24 this year, have never harvested for so long). Because heat waves and drought led to very heterogeneous ripening grapes, all varieties of Chenin Blanc could be produced, from the base wine for pétillants to single-vineyard wines. As usual, the grapes were meticulously sorted, pressed, and spontaneously fermented during the many harvests. Malolactic fermentation occurred only in exceptional cases and in individual barrels. The wine was aged in used demi-muids. The Clos du Bourg Moelleux “Première Trie” is a residually sweet wine, made from the first grapes affected by botrytis. Residual sweetness in this case means 105 g/l.
Colour
Intense golden yellow
Nose
The Clos du Bourg Moelleux “Première Trie” offers a beautiful nose. The wine is dense and intense, yet floating. Notes of ripe and freshly sliced mirabelle plums, apricots and peaches, candied and dried fruit, and apple peel combine with white nougat, some apple peel, and smoke. The result is silky, soft, and slightly spicy, yet fresh and inviting.
Palate
On the palate, the Chenin Blanc balances deep fruit with fine spice, density and lively minerality. The Clos du Bourg Moelleux “Première Trie” is a great wine in the making, presenting itself with a highly elegant and seductive presence. The deep stone fruit, the zesty notes of candied ginger and orange peel, and the hint of tropical fruit offer a fantastic richness, punctuated by a straightforward acidity.
