Product description for Claude Riffault Sancerre rouge “La Noue” AOC 2019 (bio)Marian Henß:Even on the first sip, it confirms the associations of the nose. It makes its way across the palate as straight as a candle. It seems almost bloody. Riffault presents an elegant Pinot Noir with great character. It is permeated by a pleasantly present acidity structure. It coats the mouth with a silky finish. The fruit now appears significantly brighter and more acidic: morello cherries become sour cherries. Its mineral framework gives it a lot of stability and the aforementioned linearity. The finish is very delicate and not nearly as dark as initially perceived. Juicy and an appealing drink.
Info
The 2019 Sancerre Rouge La Noue is made from 100% Pinot Noir. The vines are planted on Kimmeridge limestone soils. As with all wines from Domaine Claude Riffault, the vineyards are cultivated according to organic and biodynamic guidelines. Manual harvesting is followed by 18 months of aging. Production totals 10,630 bottles.
Colour
Bright, dark velvety red, light reflections.
Nose
The 2019 Sancerre La Noue is dark and mysterious not only in colour, but also on the nose. Morello cherries, black cherries, and red currants. A hint of sloe and greengage. Behind this dark, fruity wall lies a seemingly linear, chalky framework. Red and black pepper, as well as a touch of cinnamon, fall from the spice rack. Essential juniper berries, pine cones, and a touch of lovage contribute green elements. Coffee and a very subtle dark chocolate round it out in this dark manner. It doesn’t seem heavy at all, just very intense and unusual in its aromatic expression.
Palate
Even on the first sip, it confirms the associations of the nose. It makes its way across the palate as straight as a candle. It seems almost bloody. Riffault presents an elegant Pinot Noir with great class. It is permeated by a pleasantly present acidity structure. It coats the mouth with a silky finish. The fruit now also appears significantly lighter and more acidic: morello cherries become sour cherries. Its mineral structure gives it a lot of stability and the aforementioned linearity. The finish is very delicate and not nearly as dark as initially perceived. Juicy and an appealing drink.
