Product description for Charles Joguet Clos du Chêne Vert AOC 2011
Information about the Wine
The Clos du Chêne Vert is located on the right bank of the Vienne, not far from the center of Chinon. The vineyard extends to the top of the hill. The Clos is named after the enormous oak tree that dominates the vineyard and is said to have been planted by monks from Bourgueil in the 12th century. The vineyard itself covers two hectares and is much steeper than the Clos de la Dioterie. The soil is characterized by clay, lighter gravel, and deep limestone. Due to the vineyard’s location on the opposite bank of the Vienne with a southerly exposure, this is always the one where the harvest begins. The Cabernet Franc undergoes a cool pre-fermentation at 10°C for ten days. The must fermentation in wooden vats lasts around four weeks at temperatures not exceeding 21°C. Once alcoholic fermentation is complete, the free-run wines and the best press wines are blended for malolactic fermentation. The French oak barrels are partially renewed every year, so that around a fifth of the barrels are new and one to four years old. The vintages then mature for 15 to 16 months in wood, a further six months in tanks for harmonization, and then bottled.
Colour
Fairly transparent garnet red with a brick-red rim.
Nose
This eleven-year-aged wine is charming and sensual, with hints of dark berry fruit and red plum combined with tobacco, leather, violets, and crushed lime. There is also a touch of undergrowth, some iron, blood, and a trace of ink.
Palate
On the palate, the Chêne Vert appears large and deep, as if the doors were opening to a ballroom. Everything is in its place, noble and festive. This complex Chinon has melting aromatic tannins, reveals a hint of fruit, plenty of the typical sous-bois and the iron of mature Cabernets, and distant foliage and leaves. A great pleasure!

Score: 91+?
Dark, dense ruby. Brooding aromas of black cherry, mint, licorice and tar. Supple, pliant and discreetly sweet on the palate, with very good depth and verve to the boysenberry flavor. Still withdrawn in style, this cabernet franc finishes with serious subtle tannins and a late note of licorice reminiscent of a Saint-Emilion wine.
