Product description for Chandon de Briailles Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru “Les Valozières” rouge 2018 (bio)Domaine Chandon de Briailles was founded in 1834 in Savigny les Beaune and has been managed by François de Nicolay and his sister Claude since 2001. Since 1998, the vineyard has been exclusively organically farmed, before taking the next step of converting to biodynamics in 2005. After a conversion phase, Chandon de Briailles has been fully certified biodynamic since 2011. The estate cultivates 14 hectares of its own land and is planted exclusively with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Premier Cru Les Valozières vineyard lies between the Grand Cru Corton Bressandes and Corton Paulands vineyards. The 0.28 hectares were planted in 1987. The topsoil is clayey, while the subsoil contains abundant limestone with pebble inclusions.
Colour
Dark ruby red, transparent and clear.
Nose
On the nose, it initially reveals itself with noble understatement, taking its time before revealing more about itself bit by bit. Then, in a quiet but firm voice, it chatters about red fruits, more schematically than in detail, as well as a certain spiciness. The scent of undergrowth mingles with autumnal forest and dried leaves, with delicate floral notes hovering above it all.
Palate
The 2018 Les Valozières Aloxe-Corton Premier Cru from Domaine Chandon de Briailles is more concrete on the palate than on the nose. The tannin structures the palate and channels its profound power into regulated channels. Garnished with a blend of red and black fruits, it pulsates on the palate with enormous momentum, the acidity is ripe and supportive, and the aging in wood provides mild spices and a touch of sandalwood on the finish. Powerful and captivating, this is a magnificent Premier Cru with the best potential for immediate enjoyment as well as after several years of bottle aging.
