Wine Information

100% Carignan from Torroja del Priorat from 90-year-old vines, grown at 350-400 meters on black slate and granite. Whole-bunch pressing, fermentation, and aging in cement tanks.

Colour

Dark purple with distinct violet reflections.

Nose

The 2019 Arbossar impresses with plenty of refreshing dark fruit as well as dark blossoms and leaves reminiscent of violets, violet pastilles, cassis leaf, and beetroot. In addition to elderberries, sour cherries, and sloe, rosemary, juniper, and aromas of candied black olives are prominent. These aromas are supported by the black licorella slate and a striking use of wood, appropriate to the wine’s fullness. 100 percent Cariñena, still youthful and impetuous, but with promising aging potential.

Palate

On the tongue, it unfolds powerfully with plenty of fruit and herbal spice. The tannins are still youthful, but superbly fine-grained. The impression is created as if the black slate were directly deposited on our tongue, paired with salty minerality. One is immediately transported to the rough, rugged, and yet strikingly beautiful landscape of the Priorat. Also impressive, however, is a certain softness that reveals itself on the palate after sufficient aeration, culminating in a pleasantly challenging finish. An impressive wine that can age for decades to reveal itself with elegance and Burgundian finesse after a few years. If you want to enjoy it now, you should definitely decant it and serve it in a large glass.
