Nose

The still very young Zieregg comes from the generous and charming 2020 vintage. And like every year, this is a wine that is immediately present – even if it will naturally open up further and further with time and air. But it is impressive how clearly the interplay of fruit and stoniness presents itself here, how finely and elegantly white currants and notes of crushed stone interact, reminiscent of the quartzite content in the soils of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé. And even though 2020 was a comparatively warm vintage, an irrepressible freshness and coolness emerges in the blend of thyme, paprika, rock, and lime zest.

Palate

On the palate, the Sauvignon Blanc is both elegant and challenging. Like a conveyor belt, the Zieregg delivers minerality and rock from the subsoil, flavoured with salted lemons, lime powder, white pepper, lime and grapefruit, verbena, and mint. The Sauvignon is electrifying and full of tension, smoky and bright at the same time. It displays great aromatic depth right up to the long finish. It definitely needs large glasses and plenty of time. Its potential is enormous—the Tements speak of 30 years.
