Information about the wine

The Lemberger grapes used come from vines rooted in blue shell limestone near Vaihingen an der Enz, northwest of Stuttgart. After an early harvest – the wine has an alcohol content of 11% vol. – two-thirds of the grapes are destemmed and fermented on the skins for about four to five weeks in open wooden barrels with natural yeasts, without much agitation of the must. The wines then remain in barrels of several years on the full lees until bottling. They are not filtered and only minimally sulfurized during bottling.

Slightly transparent ruby red

Nose

The aroma alone suggests the pleasant coolness and elegance that the Lemberger will offer on the palate. It smells of red currants, crisp (sour) cherries, and a hint of pomegranate, as well as bay leaves and a hint of juniper and yeast.

Palate

On the palate, it’s finally here: The Lemberger, which is also known for being dark, firm, and rich in tannins, dances across the tongue. Everything about this wine is fresh, transparent, and juicy. At the same time, it clearly displays the typical attributes of the grape variety, with its earthy notes, meatiness, fine spice, and a tannin that is distinctive yet very subtle. The ethereal, aromatic spice of bay leaves also reappears. The balance between lightness and freshness, as well as earthiness and robustness, is just right here.
