Product description for Matassa Matassa Blanc VdF 2023

Colour

Bright orange with light reflections and a distinct cloudiness.

Nose

At first it appears reserved and quiet. It cannot shake off a tendency towards adhesiveness. Wild and natural. The veil of reduction leaves the fruit still hidden. Profound. Honest. The avoidance of sulphur allows for absolute purism. Its floral side – characterized by almond and apple blossom – builds vehemently and raises itself to a pedestal. Pickled cherries and white currant alongside raspberry then build slowly. Ripe pear and caramelized quince then ground it again. Tart lemon provides bitterness. Lavender, oregano, and thyme appear in dried form alongside a contrasting ethereal freshness. White pepper, cardamom, and allspice round it off spicy.

Palate

From the first sip, it builds up to be full-bodied and dense. It is by no means overly broad. It is absolutely lean and straightforward. At 10% ABV, it is already incredibly light-footed, but this is compensated for by a lack of center. It dances across the tongue. Its bitter notes, especially tart apple, give it a phenolic character. Its bitter components seem a bit too immature to me, with a greenish tinge, so that the flow of the drink is lost in the form of balance. All in all, however, it remains powerful and exciting thanks to its intense aromatics in the background. Smooth and silky with plenty of rough edges. The finish is nutty and has a sharp acidity.
