This Muscadet Sèvre et Maine is based on Melon de Bourgogne and comes from the registered vineyard La Butte de la Roche. The vines are planted on peridotite serpentinite on the Atlantic coast. The soil has magmatic origins from the Earth’s mantle. After the harvest, the whole grapes are processed in a pneumatic press. In the cool cellar, the must is fermented in concrete tanks, amphorae, and porcelain vessels.

Color

Bright golden yellow with greenish reflections.

Nose

Terre de Pierre thrives equally on a fine, subtle Atlantic nobility and the noticeable accents of the yeast. Toasted brioche spread with salted butter is a striking aromatic picture. It exhibits notes of mirabelle plums, ripe peaches, and yellow apples. Shortcrust pastry and a touch of cream slice all the way to bee sting. But all these excursions into the bakery by no means convey the impression of sweetness. It displays metallic nuances that are noticeably reminiscent of blood. Chopped almonds and ground hazelnuts emerge in the background. Dried herbs and some fresh seaweed spread throughout. Oyster shell and distinct accents of sea spray underscore its origins.

Palate

On the palate, the 2022 Terre de Pierre immediately impresses. It benefits from its melting power and punch. Its dense mouthfeel is accentuated by abundant salt and minerality. With very moderate acidity, it nevertheless manages to be neither broad nor bland. Its stony character leaves several hallmarks. The fruit has a balancing effect, while its herbal spiciness contributes freshness and depth. On the finish, its melting side gently reappears. Wonderful. It soothes and challenges. A sophisticated wine, if you allow it. Or a nonchalant drinking experience, if you prefer. It shows these two faces.
