Product description for Huet Clos du Bourg demi-sec 2017 (bio)
Colour
Medium straw yellow
Nose
If any Vouvray from the 2017 series veers towards reduction and the associated flint notes, it is Le Clos du Bourg demi-sec. Here, faint hints of gunpowder are found, but these quickly evaporate with air. The accompanying notes of apple and apple cider combine with nuances of Virginia tobacco and smoke, as well as ground stone and a touch of wax and wet wool, making it an archetype of the Vouvray Chenin Blanc.
Palate
In terms of taste, Le Clos du Bourg – as always, and especially in its youth – forms the link between the playful Haut-Lieu and the dark Le Mont. Stone fruit is presented here in an almost drinkably juicy manner. The sweetness lies somewhat more on the tip of the tongue than in Le Mont, and the spice moves to the center of the palate. The Vouvray seems to be nestled on a blanket of silky tannins, interwoven with the brilliant, never intrusive, yet ever-present acidity of this vintage, which is as clear as a spring stream in the Auvergne and as relaxed as the Loire, meandering through the castle landscape around Blois and Tours. 2017 is already a true joy, especially in the demi-sec, and it’s hard to know how you can force yourself to allow this wine several more years of bottle aging while simultaneously denying yourself this pleasure for so long. And yet this wine will continue to develop wonderfully over a long period of time.

The 2017 Vouvray Clos du Bourg Demi-Sec displays an intense golden-yellow color and a ripe, at the moment slightly diffuse bouquet of very ripe fruits, caramel, butterscotch and low sulfur, with very fine earthy notes in the background. Lush and very elegant on the palate, this is a powerful, intense and exuberant Chenin with firm, initially slightly astringent tannins and persistently juicy fruit. The wine is not as seamless at the beginning as the finest 2017s, but it gets much more balanced and juicy-piquant after aeration. At the end of the day, this is a pretty sexy Vouvray with Burgundian finesse. Tasted on March 2019.
