Nose

The 2002 Pinot Gris VT “Clos Windsbuhl” impresses on the nose with opulent fruit aromas of dried apricots, orange jam, and caramelized pineapple. Added to this are complex aromas reminiscent of candied ginger, acacia honey, and pickled sweet poppy seeds, accompanied by an earthy and mineral depth.

Palate

On the palate, the 2002 Pinot Gris VT “Clos Windsbuhl” presents itself as a sweet elixir, imbued with invigorating freshness by its acidity and earthy, mineral character. Particularly exciting is the fact that, despite the advanced maturity, all of this only becomes apparent to the taster after two days of opening. This is a still youthful long-distance runner in the glass!

The golden-amber colored 2002 Pinot Gris Clos Windsbuhl Vendange Tardive opens with intense fruit on the nose that is reminiscent of stewed and baked stone fruits intermingled with flinty stone aromas and saline notes. Fresh and vital on the palate, this is a rich but elegant and detailed, persistently saline and almost crystalline Pinot Gris with remarkable finesse and intensity on the finish that reveals concentrated and candied lemon aromas as well as fine tannin bitters. Very long and complex. Fabulous and still very, very young. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2023.
