Azienda Agricola Valfaccenda was founded in Canale in 2010 by Luca Faccenda and his partner Carolina Roggera. On the steep, sandy hills of the Roero, Luca and Carolina cultivate exclusively indigenous grape varieties – firmly aware that only natively rooted grape varieties can authentically reflect their origins in the bottle. The two hectares of land they own are located around the winery near Canale, while additional land is leased on the hills of Le Rocche, the symbol of the Roero, as well as in Vezza, Madonna di Loreto in Canale, and San Grato in Santo Stefano. The soils of the Roero consist of sand, which in ancient times formed the seabed of the Gulf of Padania and is sometimes found mixed with clay sediments. In 2014, Luca Faccenda applied for organic certification.

Colour

Pale light yellow with green reflections and a silver rim.

Nose

The 2024 bis-Iacco from Valfaccenda is a blend of the typical Piedmontese varieties Arneis and Cortese and smells of yellow fruits and culinary herbs: waxy yellow, mellow apples and pears, then chamomile tea, chervil, and borage, as well as a handful of wet pebbles. Tidy and straightforward, it exudes a pleasant calm in the glass.

Palate

On the palate, it is more herbal and spicy than a fruity delight. The tea notes on the nose are reflected on the palate, giving it an aromatically tart contour, while the fruit acts nonchalantly in the background. The ripe, moderate acidity gives the wine the necessary pace on the palate. A charming wine with aromatically attractive bitter notes and a warm, bassy finish.
