Product description for Trapet Alsace Riesling Schoenenbourg Grand Cru “SEL” 2021 (bio)
Wine Information
Located north of Riquewihr, the vineyard runs along the rather steep southern and southeastern flanks of the Schoenenbourg hill at an altitude of 265 to 380 meters over an area of over 50 hectares. The “Sel” cuvée is located in the central part of the Schoenenbourg; the soil dates back to the Triassic period and is characterized by Keuper and marl, but contains no gypsum.
Colour
Light golden yellow.
Nose
The 2021 Schoenenbourg Riesling Grand Cru “Sel” displays beautiful fruit of grapefruit, peach, candied lemon, and nectarine. Upon contact with oxygen, aromas of angelica, verbena, candied ginger, and tree blossom emerge. A very complex aroma that demands a decanter.
Palate
On the palate, it presents itself with cool freshness, plenty of herbs, and invigorating acidity, beautifully embedded in the fruity texture. The pronounced saltiness and fine tannins frame it strikingly and encourage another sip. Dishes with fruity and herbal influences are a trump card here, especially with creamy sauces.

Score: 96+
From the middle part of the site and entirely cultivated on Keuper, the 2021 Schoenenbourg Riesling Sel opens with a very intense yet pure, and iodine-scented nose that indicates perfectly ripe and concentrated fruit and herbal-ness that represents the coolish character of both vintage and vineyard site. This Riesling is lively and finessed, quite intense and powerful on the palate and, in a subtle way, concentrated yet saline on the finish that is also savory and narrowing again. Fascinating. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2024.

The 2021 Riesling Cuvée Sel Schoenenbourg Grand Cru is the central part of the Schoenenbourg on marl. The nose is creamy and gentle with a yellow apple that is barely ripe, juicy but tender. The palate is just as creamy but has crystal-clear acidity, a bell-like, sonorous brightness that seems to vibrate with acidity rather than sound. Yet all is buffered; all is smooth. Reine Claude Plum beckons from a distance. Give this time. This is gentleness bottled. (Bone-Dry)
