Information about the vineyard

This Riesling comes from the Schlossberg Grand Cru vineyard, north of Kientzheim and Kayserberg. The vineyard extends from an altitude of 230 to 350 meters. The Schlossberg is so steep that it has been terraced. The Schlossberg soil is primarily characterized by granite and a mixture of greywacke and sandstone. The northern part is influenced by Thannenkirch granite. The soils are extremely mineral-rich.

Colour

Light golden yellow with silvery reflections.

Nose

The aroma of the 2017 Schlossberg Riesling Grand Cru reveals ripe fruit reminiscent of orange, orange zest, and apple. Honey and the scent of a flowering meadow lend it charm. Smoky and distinctive minerality lend it structure and depth, even on the nose.

Palate

Its presentation on the tongue is striking, its crisp acidity perfectly integrated with the fruit and smoothness of the mid-palate, its finish long and characterized by salinity and stimulating tannins – a wine with a mega-future and a wonderful food companion if you want to open it in its youthful stage. Large glasses and a carafe further enhance its appeal.

The 2017 Schlossberg Riesling offers a pure, intense and spicy/phenolic bouquet of crushed granite stones and iodine. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, dense and yeasty textured, crystalline and vital Schlossberg Riesling with firm tannin grip and some grams of residual sugar. Still not singing and a bit saturating as well as drying on the finish, the 2017 sails a bit in the middle of nowhere at the moment. 13% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted in January 2023.
