Andrea Sottimano’s Dolcetto d’Alba Bric del Salto comes from three different old vine vineyards in Neive: Cottà, Basarin, and San Cristoforo. The name Bric del Salto refers to the original small Dolcetto vineyard acquired by the Sottimano family in the 1970s. Fermentation and maceration take place on the skins and typically last 20–25 days. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with native yeasts, and malolactic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. There, the wine ages on its fine lees for six months before being bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Color

Transparent ruby red with violet hues.

Nose

The 2024 Bric del Salto Dolcetto d’Alba from Sottimano is comparatively light-footed this year: The unashamedly ostentatious cherry appears somewhat less black and more bright red, which suits it very well. Added to this are fully ripe raspberries and a quirky blackberry leaf, slightly spicy notes of black nuts, and floral top notes of mallow and hollyhocks.

Palate

The first sip is slender with aromatic tannins and transparent fruit. The cherry tends more toward sour cherry, and the blackberry leaf of the nose also provides structure on the palate. Aromatically in the light red range, this Dolcetto combines invigoratingly fresh acidity with a tart, aromatic overall appearance. Slightly chilled, it’s an ace up its sleeve when paired with food.
