Info

The vines are planted on shell limestone soils and are around 30 years old. This wine pursues high terroir standards and is intended to reflect these transparently. Whole grapes are used, which are only lightly crushed with the feet and then allowed to macerate for a day. The grapes go through a basket press and are then transferred to used 300-liter barrels for fermentation. The Riesling rests on the full lees for a whole year without stirring or racking. Here, too, the wine is gently processed and bottled without any filtration, with a single addition of sulfur.

Bright golden yellow with light inclusions

Nose

And this wine really means business. The nose recognizes the Riesling as a variety, but with an enormously terroir-oriented appearance. Limestone, vineyards with limestone after rain, and wet stones flow from the glass. It also appears incredibly pure and linear. Dried herbs are abundant, both local and Mediterranean. A touch of mint and eucalyptus provide depth and ethereal freshness. Lemongrass and coriander contribute a Southeast Asian flair. Above all, however, it has subtle nutty accents, which remind me of almond and macadamia. There’s very little fruitiness, but that’s not a bad thing. Peach and quince are very shy in the background.

Palate

With just as much spice and that taut appearance that was to be expected, it rolls out the carpet before us. A carpet that certainly allows for a few rough edges and has a pleasant phenolic structure. It makes its stony, barren nature and the limestone in the soil tasteful. You can really feel it on your palate. For minutes. Its piquant yet well-integrated acidity serves this purpose wonderfully. This stretches the wine out and makes it a great drinking pleasure. The spice of the dried herbs lingers long after this smoke, combining the freshness with the distinctive aromas.
