Product description for Roche-Audran Copains IGP Méditerranée 2023 (bio)

Copains is the successor to Vincent Rochette’s Merlot. It is no longer a single-varietal Merlot, but a blend of 40% Grenache, 30% Merlot, and 30% Syrah. The vines are planted in the hills of Rasteau and Cairanne, at an altitude of 180 to 250 m, facing northeast/northwest. The soils are clay and sand, covered with pebbles of marine and alluvial origin. The spontaneously fermented wine is fermented and aged in concrete vats.

Nose

The 2023 Copains is a wine clearly intended to be enjoyed with friends and with pleasure. It is a summery, southern Vin de Soif full of fragrance, reminiscent of violet blossoms and garrigue, blackberries, and both sweet and sour cherries. Even on the nose, the wine strikes a successful balance between warm southern aromas and cool, stony, earthy notes reminiscent of black stallion.

Palate

The palate continues in the same vein. Here, too, one finds expressive fragrances of violets, along with the aroma of fresh pomegranate juice, cherries, and currants, balanced with herbs and stony notes. The emphasis here is on juiciness and freshness, enhanced by the aging in cement tanks and complemented by a pleasantly grippy texture.
