Colour

Light cherry red with bright, violet reflections

Nose

The nose is absolutely dark and mystical. Dark chocolate and coffee flow from the glass. Black olives, leather, and pencil follow a similar pattern. Plums, rosehips, figs, and mulberries deliver a good portion of fruit, but one that doesn’t want to intrude. Blackberry, sour cherry, and raspberry emerge with a little patience in the glass. It appears warm but balanced. In addition to the distinct note of olive, it reveals a Mediterranean flavour through rosemary, thyme, and garrigue. Pine forest and mint add ethereal components to the wine alongside all the spice. It finishes with notes of red fruit tea.

Palate

The Châteauneuf du Pape from Roche-Audran is based solely on the Grenache grape variety. Its mouthfeel is compact and juicy. It appears both fleshy and bloody. Substance and structure, yet full of finesse and purpose. The fruit is loud, but small-berry and rather acidic. The fruit flows into a fine stream that works the palate. Unusually refined and lean. Not even remotely rich or overly concentrated. The spice only subtly emerges in the finish. It is significantly more intense, characterized by exuberant, delicate fruit, which is underlined by the perfectly balanced acidity. Grenache at its best.
