Information

Ùnic comes from plots of Grenache Noir planted in the Piémont Pyrénéen Oriental region in 1991. The soil consists of largely decomposed, clayey slate and sand. The Grenache was fermented as a whole bunch and aged in neutral wood and concrete.

Colour

Fairly transparent cherry red with a slight violet tinge.

Nose

The single-varietal Grenache Noir called Ùnic is not a perfume, but a subtly aromatic wine reminiscent of red berries, sometimes crisp, sometimes soft and ripe. There is also a hint of licorice, garrigue, and violet blossoms.

Palate

Ùnic is something of an introduction to the Grenache varieties of Roc des Anges. This is less about power and concentration than about flow and enjoyment, about elegance and finesse. This can be found on the palate in the interplay of ripe red fruits, fine minerality, and a clear licorice note. The wine flows briskly across the palate, blending the fruit and spice with ripe, clear acidity and silky tannins. For Marjorie Gallet, the wine falls under a “less is more” style, with excitement, freshness, refinement, and elegance. It’s delicious and entertaining.
