Product description for Pranzegg Elysion 2023
The Pranzegg winery is named after the estate where Martin Gojer has been producing his wines since 2009, reflecting their origins, the vintage, and the family’s lifestyle. Located above the Bolzano valley basin, Gojer’s vineyards are cultivated biodynamically by hand, and in the cellar, less is more: Long fermentation and long maturation periods on the full lees with the addition of only small amounts of sulfur characterize the wines, which are always bottled unfined and unfiltered. The Elysion comes from a small, long-terraced vineyard on the Kohlerer Berg at an altitude of 900 meters, cultivated by Gojer’s neighbor and friend Lukas from Röllhof. The young vines, trained according to the Guyot method, grow on loamy-sandy soils of volcanic origin with a high porphyry content. Cultivation is organic, without the use of tractors – on just 0.4 hectares of land, with a planting density of 7,000 vines per hectare and a yield of around 8,000 kg per hectare. After direct pressing, the must ferments spontaneously in used barrels and barriques. The wine then matures for eleven months on its fine lees in wood, completely naturally, without fining or filtration. After a further seven months of bottle aging, it is sold unfined and unfiltered. Only 900 bottles were produced. The alcohol content is 12%, the residual sugar is 1 g/l, and the total sulfur content is just 30 mg/l.
Color
Pale straw yellow with a silver rim and a silky sheen.
Nose
The 2023 Elysion from Marion & Martin Gojers Pranzegg still slumbers beneath a delicate reduction note that quickly evaporates after being decanted. Fine yeast notes remain, reminiscent of sugared plaited bread, as well as the scent of dried yellow pears on the windowsill. The wet, raked pebbles in the driveway are blurred by raindrops on the fogged window.
Mouth
The silky texture defines its entire being: its feel, its flow, and the tranquility it exudes. Creamy on the opening, with a soft phenolic texture, the mouthfeel is reminiscent of high-quality tea. The fruit is rather abstract, revealing only the skin of the pear and nut, and the pit of the peach. The ripe acidity illuminates it with indirect light—no glare, yet it radiates. Beyond Weissburgunder.
