Wine Information

The vineyard is located in Poisy in Haute-Savoie. It enjoys an alpine climate with a view of nearby Mont Blanc. The Mondeuse grapes come from a total of two hectares, spread across three vineyards, some of which are extremely steep and lie between 350 and 450 meters above sea level. The terroir lies in Desingy, Collonges, and Peillonnex. The soils are a mixture of calcareous clay, glacial debris, and rock. The yield is 25 hl/h. The grapes are 90% destemmed to avoid astringency and aged in older barrels for two winters before being bottled unfiltered.

Color

Deep yet slightly transparent purple.

Nose

The Quintessence de Mondeuse offers a truly astonishing array of aromas, which can essentially be guessed from the color. The wine is dense and dark-fruity, yet transparent and exceedingly fresh. Its aromas are of elderberries and blackberries with a delicate sweetness, balanced with hints of graphite and ink, cinnamon and marzipan, and a touch of warm forest floor.

Palate

On the palate, the Quintessence de Mondeuse develops a tension between concentration and transparency, darkness and clarity. The wine is almost like a high-mountain Syrah, with notes of blackberries, crisp plums, cherries, and some bitter almonds, blood orange zest and juice, a hint of bresaola, and pepper. The tannins are polished, and the acidity is as powerful and clear as a mountain stream.
