Product description for Olek Bondonio Barbaresco Roncagliette DOCG 2021

Wine Information

100% Nebbiolo from Roncagliette. This is a small plot of 50-year-old vines growing in Olek’s front yard. They are rooted in very heavy clay on blue marl at an altitude of 350 m. Fermentation took place in concrete tanks with two months of maceration and submerged pomace caps. The wine was then gently pressed in a basket press and transferred to large vats for at least two years. Finally, the Barbaresco was bottled unfiltered and unfined with a total sulphur content of approximately 40 mg.

Nose

If there is a Barbaresco that involuntarily brings to mind the finest Burgundy and Piedmont at the same time, then perhaps this is it. It smells of fresh rose petals, sandalwood, and the finest oak with a hint of vanilla. Added to this are notes of cherries and raspberries, a touch of lavender and mint, and a touch of dry forest floor and undergrowth.

Palate

On the palate, the Roncagliette is extremely elegant, silky, juicy, and endowed with the finest wood. It presents itself powerfully, yet fresh, floating, and transparent. It is only slightly earthy, complemented by dried cherries and wild strawberries, and displays fine but distinctive tannins and a brilliant, challenging, yet well-integrated acidity. The wine has an impressive presence, appears light and relaxed, yet has a solid backbone of fine-grained tannins and crisp acidity. A great Barbaresco!
