Wine Information

0.98 hectares of vineyards are planted in the village of “Les Herses” on flint soil. The stony, southeast-facing terroir lends the wine a certain structure. The Pinot Noir vines are on average 45 years old, planted at a density of 7,700 vines per hectare, with a yield of 40 hectolitres. After hand-harvesting, 30% whole bunches and 70% destemmed grapes undergo a cold maceration for 2-3 days before fermentation. Subsequent maceration takes place over three weeks. After small reassemblies, the pomace is pressed at low pressure, and the first runs and the press juice are combined. Malolactic fermentation takes place in ceramic tanks and 50% in 228-liter wooden barrels on the fine lees. After drawing off the wine from the vats, it is further aged in stainless steel tanks to refine it while preserving its freshness. Bottling follows the lunar cycle.

Deep garnet red with violet reflections.

Nose

The 2020 Sancerre Rouge “Les Heres” is full of density and pronounced fruit of dark blackberries and cherries. Wild raspberries pair with blackcurrant. This pronounced fruit is beautifully enveloped by herbs such as rosemary, thyme, and a hint of juniper. You immediately want to sink into it and never resurface.

Palate

The intense aroma continues on the palate with plenty of juicy fruit. The ripe tannins still have a youthful presence, and the fine acidity flirts with the fruity sweetness. This lends this extremely fine and charming Burgundy a sense of playfulness and finesse. Excellent aging potential!
