Wine Information

Les Herses is a two-hectare clay and flint vineyard in Ménétreol-sous-Sancerre. Planchon owns 0.98 hectares of Les Herses – some of which are planted with Pinot Noir – with a southeast exposure. The Sauvignon Blanc vines are on average 45 years old, planted at a density of 7,700 vines per hectare, and yield around 50 hl/ha. After being hand-picked, the grapes are slowly pressed in a pneumatic press and left to settle for approximately 36 hours at a temperature below 10°C. Fermentation then takes place spontaneously, 70% in stainless steel tanks and 30% in 500-liter barrels. Aging on the fine lees takes place in the same tanks, for a period that varies depending on the year. On average, it’s ten to twelve months. Bottling then takes place according to the lunar cycle (Christoph Raffelt).

Colour

Light white gold with silvery reflections.

Nose

The 2021 Sancerre Blanc “Les Heres” reveals charm and finesse at the same time. Fresh grapes, a hint of honeydew melon, citrus, and pear pair with jasmine and elderflower. Delicate green notes of thyme and mint emerge, as well as a stony mineral depth that becomes even more pronounced with a little aeration.

Palate

The palate reveals juiciness and a creamy texture. The bright and partly exotic fruit presents itself elegantly and is never overt. Its acidity is precise, the fine minerality seems salty and extremely stimulating. Its elegant finish encourages you to empty the bottle immediately.
