Product description for La Soufrandière Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat “Les Longeays” AOC 2021 (bio)
Wine Information
The Bret brothers own 0.54 hectares in the Climat Les Longeays in the Pouilly-Vinzelles appellation. The beautifully situated vineyard is located at an altitude of 210 meters, directly adjacent to Les Quarts, facing south-southeast. It boasts 38-year-old Chardonnay vines on partly ferrous clay and limestone soils from the Bajocian region (Jura). The wines produced there are long-lasting, balanced. Harvested by hand on September 22, 2021, whole-bunch pressing and spontaneous fermentation, followed by aging for 17 months, initially in pièces for 11 months and then in foudres with 100% malolactic fermentation. The total sulphur content is 34 mg/l, depending on the barrel. The pH is 3.16.
Colour
Intense straw yellow
Nose
The Pouilly-Vinzelles Les Longeays vineyard has a reputation for producing balanced and long-lasting Chardonnays. The former, at least, is evident in the aroma. The wine combines lively, bright, citrus notes with ripe yellow plums and white-fleshed peaches. The fruit is accompanied by a hint of jasmine, tree bark, foliage, and rock.
Palate
The Pouilly-Vinzelles has a similar palate. Here, too, a pleasant balance is formed between bright, punchy citrus fruit and acidity, with a fine, slightly yeasty creaminess, some resistance from a fine tannin, and a good amount of salt in the finish. The Chardonnay possesses very good length and intensity, with the elegant, fine-pored texture remaining present right through to the finish.

Score: 92
The 2021 Pouilly-Vinzelles Climat Les Longeays, a parcel that belonged to the Brets’ paternal grandfather, located on more clayey soils than other cuvées, aged one year in barrel then six months in tank. This has an expressive and animated nose with lime, green apple, crushed stone and subtle orange rind aromas. The palate is well balanced with fine acidity, taut and linear, and animated with a saline finish. It’s a little terse at first but more engaging as it unfurls in the glass. Good potential.
