Wine Information

For Kühling-Gillot, the Ölberg is the southernmost site in the Niersteiner Roter Hang. It is the only site with a completely southerly exposure and, with a 60% gradient, a classic steep slope. The red clay slate, as weathered rock, replaces the humus layer of the vineyard and also serves as a heat reservoir.

Nose

The 2023 Nierstein Ölberg is a delicate, light, and floral Riesling with a slightly smoky aspect and juicy yellow fruit aromas, which only emerge with some warmth and air. Then one also perceives the slightly stony, cool aspect.

Palate

On the palate, the Riesling from the Ölberg shows plenty of juice. It appears lively, round, and silky. The wine is charming, with a good balance of fruit and extract. And the closer you get to the finish, the saltier and more piquant the wine becomes. It’s now taut, has a pull, and becomes increasingly mouthwatering and dense.

The 2023 Riesling Niersteiner Ölberg Grosses Gewächs comes from vines that were planted in 1991. Reduction crackles with much promise on the nose. Underneath that, citrus foliage, crushed tansy and wet stone shine. That savor pervades the palate, tingling, flowing, fluid and smooth but exquisitely sleek and slender.
