Product description for Kühling-Gillot Nierstein Riesling trocken VDP Erste Lage 2023 (bio)
Wine Information
In 2006, this Riesling was once again given the name of the most famous wine-growing town on the Rhine Terrace, in whose area a large part of the winery’s vineyards are located. Carolin and HO believe that there is a “genius loci” of Nierstein that can be expressed in the wines – what is now often called terroir.
Colour
Radiant golden yellow with distinct green reflections.
Nose
It exudes exoticism, plump yellow fruit of peach, apricot, and mango, while at the same time a cool and precise finesse, characterized by a stony and smoky impression. An incredibly multifaceted and stimulating opening that promises great drinking pleasure even on the nose.
Palate
The 2023 Nierstein Riesling VDP reveals itself on the palate. A first-class wine from a prime vineyard, playful, juicy, challenging, and distinctive, invigorating, full of expression and minerality. A wine with excellent aging potential, it already opens up perfectly to the connoisseur and will become even more complex and exciting with some ageing. A benchmark for the Roter Hang in Nierstein, truly top-notch!

The 2023 Nierstein Riesling 1G is pure and refined but also intense and mineral on the fruity, aromatic nose that is an excellent ambassador of the famous “red slope.” Vital and savory on the first palate, this is an elegant, balanced and classical Nierstein Riesling with salivating salinity and piquancy on the finish. This is an expressive terroir wine at a price that is still affordable. 12.5% stated alcohol. Diam cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.

The 2023 Riesling Nierstein was picked in the mid-slope of Pettenthal (the fruit that is not used for the GG). Beautiful savor of crushed yarrow and herb oil precedes apple crunchiness on the nose. The palate is light and bone-dry yet fluid. That lovely ripeness of Riesling tingles with zestiness and rings with peppery spice on the finish. (Bone-dry)
