Wine Information

Lapis is a wine made from 100% Hárslevelü, the linden-leaved grape variety. The fruit comes from the Lapis vineyard and was harvested on October 28, 2011. After pressing and spontaneous fermentation, the wine was aged for five months in 5-hectoliter Slavonian oak barrels and filled with 15.5% alcohol, 32 grams of residual sugar, and 6 grams of acidity.

Colour

Light amber, tending towards copper.

Nose

Lapis is a slightly tart and malty-scented Tokaji made from the rather rare Hárslevelü, the linden-leaved grape variety. The wine’s aroma is completely unique, reminiscent of bitter almond notes in cherry stones, grapefruit peel, and bitter oranges, as well as quince, ginger, and verbena with nuts. Above all, however, the malty and smoky character stands out, slightly reminiscent of Islay whiskies.

Palate

The 2011 Tokaji Lapis Hárslevelü initially appears almost oily, concentrated, and full-bodied on the palate. Sweetness coats the palate, but is quickly captured by vibrant acidity and minerality, as well as impressive tannins. This is also a completely unique impression on the palate, initially even disconcerting because it’s unusual, but which quickly gives way to enthusiasm for this creation. Viscous, creamy, then powerful and forward-moving, firm and tart, malty and smoky, citrusy and yellow fruity, the wine is all of this at once.
