Wine Information

Physiologically highly ripe grapes were harvested from our own selection of old Grüner Veltliner vines in the Steinthal vineyard. Intracellular mash fermentation took place over six days in kvevri, after which the wine was aged on the lees for 22 months without intervention in 700-liter acacia barrels. Bottling took place in February 2023 without fining, with 20 mg/L of sulfites. The pH is 3.15, and the residual sugar is 1 gram.

Light golden yellow

Nose

The aroma quickly reveals that this is a wine with minimal sulfur, which has been aged for a long time on the lees. The NUMEN Grüner Veltliner smells of crumbly apples, warm yeast dough, nuts, and almond flakes with a hint of wool wax, blond tobacco, and rock.

Palate

On the palate, this is a complex, firmly woven, and powerful wine with a distinctly yeasty flavour and a correspondingly creamy texture. One might fear that this also implies a certain heaviness and solidity. But that’s far from the case. The wine possesses impressive vibrancy and freshness, although the acidity also seems ripe and fine rather than forceful. It’s the minerality, the tart spice, and the slightly salty notes that give the Grüner Veltliner tension and vibrancy. The wine, which has a rather dark spiciness, lingers on the palate for a long time, lingering there in its complexity.
