At the domaine, founded in 1919, Thomas Bouley has overseen an unstoppable rise to the top of the Volnay appellation since 2010. Meticulous vineyard management and his impressive feel for wood and tannins produce wines with power and substance, finesse, pure fruit, and rondeur. Bouley’s vineyards are located primarily around Volnay, but also in Pommard, Beaune, and Meursault. His main focus, however, is definitely Volnay, where he creates an impressive range, from the declassified Bourgogne Côte d’Or to the village wines and 1er Crus, which reflect the terroir with great precision and demonstrate the high quality and balance that can be achieved in this corner of Burgundy.

The 2022 Volnay Vieilles Vignes is rather rich and muscular, unwinding in the glass with aromas of dark berries, spices and plums, followed by a medium to full-bodied, broad-shouldered and textural palate, its deep core of fruit framed by sweet, powdery tannins. Its more powerful, structured profile reflects its origins, from vines that see all-day sun and little in the way of breeze and located in the red clay soils below premier cru Carelles.
