At the domaine, founded in 1919, Thomas Bouley has overseen an unstoppable rise to the top of the Volnay appellation since 2010. Meticulous vineyard management and his impressive feel for wood and tannins produce wines with power and substance, finesse, pure fruit, and rondeur. Bouley’s vineyards are located primarily around Volnay, but also in Pommard, Beaune, and Meursault. His main focus, however, is definitely Volnay, where he creates an impressive range, from the declassified Bourgogne Côte d’Or to the village wines and 1er Crus, which reflect the terroir with great precision and demonstrate the high quality and balance that can be achieved in this corner of Burgundy.

Powerful and muscular, the 2020 Volnay Vieilles Vignes is richer than the ethereal Clos de la Cave, offering up aromas of sweet cherries, plum compote, licorice and spices. Full-bodied, layered and enveloping, it’s broad shouldered and fleshy, with lively acids and a long, expansive finish.
