Nose

The nose of the 1990 Le Mont Moelleux 1ère Trie from Domaine Huet shines with its unique youthfulness and freshness. Like a prism, it breaks open into citrus top notes, linden and acacia blossoms, as well as a hint of lemon oil and mandarin marmalade. All this is underpinned by fresh yeast plait, caramel, orange liqueur, young cognac, and white Montelimar nougat. A few shavings of milk chocolate, pistachios, and a light Virginia tobacco leaf, as well as a handful of dried apricots, set the wheel spinning.

Palate

The first sip of the 1990 Le Mont is oily and dense with medium intensity. The once primary, youthful sweetness plays second fiddle here, at most, as the wine shines with its elegant spicy notes, which, like a good curry, are characterized by their perfect proportions. The acidity is electric like an electric eel, stretching from the first sip to the epic finish. The wine has immense tension; nothing is fat, nothing is broad. A wine with a dramatically long, minerally cool, and ambrosial finish. 26 years old and far from finished. Spectacular.
