Vineyard Information

The Clos du Bourg is one of the oldest Grand Cru plots in France, consisting of shallow clay soils with limestone in the subsoil. The flowing Loire River gently bathes the vines in morning dew, and the southern exposure helps them capture bright sunlight, which is very important for the ripening of Chenin.

Color

Sparkling, dense golden yellow.

Nose

The 2018 Vouvray Le Clos de Bourg 1ère Trie Moelleux is characterized by an impressive and dense minerality, making it seem somewhat closed. After opening for a longer period, aromas of quince, quince jelly, orange, orange zest, baked apple, acacia honey, and caramel emerge, accompanied by notes reminiscent of cinnamon and white chocolate. Delicate hints of fresh ginger, acacia, and elderflower are also detectable, beautifully rounding off the complex aromas.

Palate

It glides silky and sweet across the tongue. Its acidity lends it a refreshing touch, its fine tannins and salty notes contribute incredible precision, and a taste of freshly cooked applesauce emerges. It never feels filling or even sweet, but rather stimulating and seductive, even incredibly invigorating. It is at the very beginning of its development and will continue to develop magnificently over the next few years. If you want to enjoy it now, decant it if possible and drink it from a larger glass, not too chilled.

The 2018 Moelleux 1ére Trie Clos du Bourg is magnificent. Clean, mineral and also quite rich, the 2018 is all about harmony. Underlying veins of salinity frame the orange jam, passion fruit, apricot and chamomile flavor so well. Even with all of its obvious richness, Clos du Bourg retains its cut and energy. Wow!
