Heinrich’s Blaufränkisch, from organic and biodynamic farming, was harvested by hand starting in mid-September and then fermented spontaneously with its own yeasts on the skins in wooden fermenters and steel tanks. It matured for 18 months on the lees in fermenters and used 500-liter barrels.

Colour

: Crimson red with violet highlights and a black core.

Nose

Heinrich’s Blaufränkisch smells like a Blaufränkisch should smell in a test to demonstrate its varietal character: The ripe, dark, yet uncooked fruit is framed by spices, reminiscent of blackberries, ripe cherries, and elderberries. Added to this are notes of black pepper, figs, and a touch of cinnamon blossom—and the aroma glass is ready!

Palate

On the palate, it oscillates between juicy fruit, fine-grained tannins, and unbridled drinkability: The aromas of the nose are also reflected on the palate, with piquant spices flashing to the left, and dark fruit bubbling beneath. Grip, transparency despite concentration, and ripe acidity accelerate it to 180 gpm (gulps per minute).
