Vindemiatrix is the proper name of the star Epsilon Virginis in the zodiac sign of Virgo. The Romans waited for its appearance in the sky to begin the grape harvest. This is where the Italian word ‘vendemmia’ for grape harvest or the French ‘vendange’ comes from. Georg Meissner devotes himself to tending his two vineyards, which were originally supposed to be cleared. The Carignan, planted in 1899, stands on a terraced site surrounded by stone walls, rocks, and forest. Yields are around 9 hl/ha.

Colour

Muted garnet red with distinct violet inclusions.

Nose

The 2018 Vindemiatrix displays dark fruit aromas of blackberry, blueberry, sloe, and plum on the nose. With oxygen, peaty notes, freshly ground black pepper and vanilla, as well as fragrant floral aromas of violets and wild roses emerge. At the same time, it appears wild, primal, and profound.

Palate
